Plateau Residents Demand Action Against Bandit Attacks

Residents of Plateau State protested against persistent bandit attacks, expressing their exhaustion over the violence that has plagued their communities. The protests were sparked by a recent attack on the Ratati community in the Dorowa Babuj district, where ten residents were reportedly killed by gunmen, believed to be Fulani militia.

Youth leader Ishaya Gayu articulated the community's frustration, criticizing the state government and security agencies for their inaction and failure to protect citizens. He highlighted that over the past six months, approximately 50 people have been killed across ten communities, with homes and farmland destroyed, leading to widespread displacement.

Despite repeated assurances from authorities, residents feel abandoned, especially during attacks when they claim security agencies do not respond to distress calls. Rwang Tengwong from the Berom Youth Moulder Association noted the increasing frequency of attacks, which they view as a deliberate attempt to wipe out their communities, demanding justice for victims and protection from further violence.
