PMI Study Reveals Project Complexity Threat in Africa

A recent study by the Project Management Institute (PMI) indicates that project complexity poses a prominent threat to project success in Sub-Saharan Africa. The PMI's latest report reveals that 81% of project professionals globally believe that projects have become more complex in recent years, with 37% describing this increase as significant.

Factors contributing to this complexity include organizational environments, human factors, and the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI). The report highlights that Sub-Saharan Africa has a notably high rate of missed delivery deadlines at 44%, significantly above the global average of 35%.

Additionally, 41% of stakeholders in the region face decision-making delays, compared to 34% globally. Georg Asamani, Managing Director of PMI Sub-Saharan Africa, stated that these findings reflect the realities organizations face in the region, which is currently undertaking ambitious transformation agendas across various sectors.

The report emphasizes the need for organizations to adapt quickly to changes and build resilient teams capable of operating amid uncertainty.
