Podcaster Sues Telcos for N50bn Over Consumer Rights

KaaTruths Podcast Limited and its podcaster, Ophoke Armstrong Amobi, have initiated legal action against MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, Globacom Limited, Airtel Networks Limited, and MultiChoice Nigeria Limited in the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking N50 billion in damages. The lawsuit, filed on Friday under case number FHC/ABJ/CV/886/2026, challenges the companies' practices regarding the expiration of unused data bundles and subscription periods, especially when consumers cannot fully utilize services due to disruptions.

The plaintiffs argue that terms allowing unused data to expire solely based on elapsed time are unfair and violate Nigerian consumer protection laws. They also seek to restrain the companies from continuing any unfair practices.

The case raises broader questions about consumer rights for millions of Nigerians. Amobi highlighted the issue on Facebook, stating that the case represents the rights of consumers who face consequences for unused or disrupted services.

The plaintiffs cited an incident involving a faulty MTN subscription costing N30,000.
