Adewole Adebayo Emphasizes Nigerian Police Force's Role in Peace and Global Security

Adewole Adebayo, a leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), highlighted the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) as a crucial reflection of Nigeria's history and future peace aspirations during a symposium in Lagos. The event, organized by the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), brought together key security and policy figures including the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun and the Director General of NIIA, Prof. Eghosa Emmanuel Osagha.

Adebayo stressed the need for bold investments in the police for genuine peace at home and credibility abroad. The symposium discussed the NPF's role in peace processes and its significant contributions to international peacekeeping missions in countries like Congo, Kosovo, East Timor, Somalia, Sudan, and Haiti.

Egbetokun highlighted Nigeria's commitment to multilateral peacekeeping efforts, with over 12,000 Nigerian police officers serving across multiple continents and regions. The discussions also focused on the challenges faced by modern peace operations, including terrorism, transnational crime, cyber threats, and resource constraints.

The event concluded with a call for deeper collaboration among policymakers, security agencies, civil society, and the international community to uphold Nigeria's role in global peacekeeping.
