Anambra Police Charge Six for Child Abuse and Sexual Crimes

The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned six suspects before the Gender-Based Violence Court in Awka, Anambra State, on charges related to defilement, sexual assault, child abuse, assault, and unlawful procurement of abortion involving minors. The arraignment occurred on Thursday following thorough investigations.

Chinedu Chiekwu, from Umuoli Village, faces allegations of defiling an 11-year-old child on September 6, 2026. Sunday Anele is accused of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl, resulting in pregnancy.

Ugochukwu Okereke allegedly lured a 13-year-old girl to a bush and sexually assaulted her, while Ebuka Nwachukwu is charged with sexually abusing a six-year-old child. Ogechi Ofoma, a female from Awada, Obosi, is accused of inflicting injuries on her five-year-old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma, using a heated kitchen knife.

Lastly, Obianuju Okafor is charged with unlawfully procuring an abortion for her 15-year-old daughter. The police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that a separate case involving a 36-year-old woman engaged in inappropriate conduct with her child has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal action.
