Police Arrest 1,198 Suspects, Rescue 166 Kidnap Victims

During a monthly conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu reported that nationwide anti-crime operations from June 9 to June 21, 2026, led to the arrest of 1,198 suspects for various offenses, including 151 for murder, 117 for armed robbery, and 151 for kidnapping. Additionally, 166 kidnap victims were rescued, and significant recoveries included 166 firearms and 1,475 rounds of ammunition, along with 47 stolen vehicles.

Disu highlighted the successful rescue of abducted students and teachers in Oyo State as a prime example of effective collaboration among security agencies. He commended the operatives for their careful planning and intelligence work but cautioned against complacency following these successes.

Disu urged senior officers to adopt dynamic, threat-informed strategies to address ongoing issues such as terrorism, kidnapping, and organized crime, emphasizing the need for credible intelligence in all deployments.
