Delta Police Arrest Five Over Ozoro Festival Assaults

The Delta State Police Command arrested five individuals, including the community head and chief organizer of the Ozoro festival, Chief Omored Sundai, following allegations of sexual assaults during the annual event. The arrests were disclosed by Bright Edaf, the command's public relations officer, on a Friday post.

The police, under the directive of Commissioner Aina Adesola, ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the state Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. The incidents reportedly occurred on Thursday, March 19, during the festival, where a viral video showed young men allegedly attacking women, leading to various forms of molestation.

Some victims were reportedly raped, although these claims had not been officially confirmed at the time of the report. The Delta State government condemned the acts, with Charl Aniagwu emphasizing zero tolerance for gender-based violence and urging community leaders to implement adequate security measures to protect participants in future events.
