Police Arrest Pregnant Woman and Four Kidnappers in Abuja

On June 11, 2026, the FCT Police Command arrested five suspects connected to kidnapping activities on the outskirts of Abuja, including a heavily pregnant woman named Hauwa Shafiu, who served as a cook and logistic supplier for the criminal gang. The operation, led by CP Ahm Sanusi, followed a clearance operation in the Byazin Kubwa area.

Upon arrest, Shafiu was taken to a hospital where she subsequently gave birth to a healthy baby. Other suspects arrested include Yahaya Abdullahi, Muham Yunusa, and Shamsudeen Mustapha.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were part of a criminal network involved in kidnappings around the FCT, strategically embedding themselves within local communities. Items recovered from the suspects included four motorcycles, 31 pieces of 500mg tramadol tablets, and N320,000 in cash, part of the ransom from a recent kidnapping.

The police plan to demolish identified hideouts used by the suspects in collaboration with the FCT administration.
