Kwara Police Arrest Cultists, Recover Firearms in Ilorin

The Kwara State Police Command arrested several suspected members of a secret cult group in Ilorin and recovered firearms during an operation. The arrests were disclosed by Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo during a press briefing on Friday.

This operation followed a fatal cult-related incident that occurred on January 6, 2026, where a 28-year-old man named Victor Mathew Nwachukwu was shot dead by suspected cultists. The police launched an intensive investigation leading to the arrest of three suspects identified as Abdulrashe Ham (popularly known as Baniq), Abdulganeen Abdulafeez (known as Jagaban Fizco), and Muham Nuhu Wahab (popularly called Honor).

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of the Aiy Alora secret cult operating within Ilorin. The police recovered several weapons, including a locally made silver pistol, a shotgun, and various charms.

Additionally, another suspect, Sofiullahi Ibrahim Idowu, was arrested in connection with a separate cult-related disturbance in the Olunlad area on December 24, 2025. The police assured the community of their commitment to dismantling cult groups to prevent further violence.
