Police Arrest Drug Baron and Recover Stolen Items in A'Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested a suspected drug baron, Ofonim Etim, during an operation in Ikot Ebom Itam, Itu Local Government Area. The operation, which was coordinated based on credible intelligence, targeted a known criminal enclave believed to be a haven for drug trafficking and receiving stolen property.

During the search, police recovered a substantial quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, various stolen items including electronic appliances, and a submersible water pump belonging to the Ikot Ebom Itam village hall. The village council chairman confirmed the ownership of the water pump, which had been reported stolen.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the premises operated as a major distribution point for illicit drugs. The police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, stated that the suspect would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The command, under Commissioner Baba Moham Azar, reiterated its commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and enhancing public safety in the state.
