Suspected Drug Baron Arrested in Akwa Ibom Police Raid

On Wednesday, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command announced the arrest of a suspected drug baron, Ofonim Etim, during a raid in Ikot Ebom Itam, Itu Local Government Area. The operation, which was conducted based on credible intelligence, aimed at dismantling a notorious drug bunker believed to serve as a haven for drug trafficking and receiving stolen properties.

During the raid, police recovered a substantial quantity of substances, including Indian hemp, various electronic appliances, and other stolen items. The operation was part of the command's sustained offensive against criminal elements in the state.

The village council chairman confirmed that some recovered items, such as a submersible water pump, belonged to the Ikot Ebom Itam village hall and had been reported stolen. Preliminary investigations indicated that the premises had functioned as a major distribution point for illicit drugs.

The suspect is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
