Oyo Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper, Recover Firearms

The Oyo State Police Command arrested a suspected kidnapper identified as Muhammadu Abubakar and recovered illegal firearms, including an AK-47 rifle, during an operation in Ikoyi Il, Oyo State. The operation was prompted by reports of three armed men carrying AK-47 rifles seen in the forest farmland area.

A joint team led by the Division Police Officer of Ikoyi Il conducted a meticulous search of the surrounding bush, resulting in the recovery of the firearm, which bore the number 6628 2274, along with six rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and three live cartridges. During interrogation, Abubakar confessed to being involved in serious kidnapping activities around Ogbomoso and Ikoyi Il.

The State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Abimbola, directed that Abubakar be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. The police emphasized the importance of public cooperation in combating crime and assured residents of their commitment to ensuring safety and security in the state.
