Police Arrest Suspected Serial Killer in Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command arrested suspected serial killer Akaniyen Eretu following the discovery of multiple shallow graves containing human remains in a forest in the Odukpani Local Government Area. Police spokesperson Sundai Akata confirmed the arrest, stating that Eretu was apprehended in a secluded hideout in a creek town after security operatives acted on intelligence related to recent disappearances and murders.

Eretu, an indigene of Obot Akara, attempted to flee upon noticing the approaching security team but was overpowered. A search of the compound led to the discovery of eight shallow graves, which contained multiple bodies buried without heads.

The graves were reportedly concealed under plantain crops to avoid suspicion. During preliminary interrogation, Eretu allegedly confessed to involvement in several killings.

Additionally, a 35-year-old female suspect, Uduak Essien, was arrested in connection with the case. Both suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to determine the full extent of their alleged crimes and identify possible additional victims or accomplices.
