Police Arrest Two Cultists with Firearm in Ibadan

On Wednesday, the Oyo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of two suspected cultists, Lawal Opeyemi, aged 31, and Aiki Olaniyan Opeyemi, aged 29, at the Polytechnic in Ibadan. The arrests followed a swift operation triggered by credible intelligence from the Good Samaritan Institute, which reported that a group of young men suspected of cult activities were roaming the campus with violent intent.

The police, led by the Division Police Officer of Sango, quickly mobilized to the scene, resulting in the apprehension of the suspects. A subsequent search uncovered a locally made double-barrel pistol, two live cartridges, and a black bag containing charms.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in cult activities and were linked to serious past cult-related clashes within the institution. The case has been transferred to the Anti-Cultism Unit for a thorough investigation, with the police emphasizing their zero-tolerance stance against cultism and violent crime.
