Two Arrested for Armed Robbery and Cultism in Abia

The Abia State Police Command announced the arrest of two suspects, Michael Kalu, 21, from Afikpo North Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, and Obinna Chimezi, 23, from Aba, Abia State, for armed robbery and cultism. The arrests were made following intelligence-led operations by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) on May 6, 2026.

During the operations, police recovered several exhibits, including an English pistol, a locally made pistol, and a shotgun. Kalu was apprehended in Amuma Ohafia, while Chimezi was arrested near the Borrow Pit off Templ Gate along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, where he was involved in vandalizing a gas pipeline.

Both suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). They will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigations.

Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa urged the public to partner with the police by providing timely information to the nearest police station.
