Edo Police Arrest 87, Rescue 30 Kidnapping Victims

The Edo State Police Command conducted a significant operation that resulted in the arrest of 87 suspects and the rescue of 30 kidnapping victims. This operation, which took place in January, was part of a broader offensive against violent crime across the state.

Commissioner of Police Mondai Agbonika disclosed these achievements during a press conference in Benin City at the end of the month. The operation included the deployment of helicopters for surveillance and the use of newly acquired drone technology, which enhanced real-time aerial reconnaissance.

The police collaborated with the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Edo State Security Corps, and local hunters. In addition to the kidnappers, 13 murder suspects, 14 armed robbery suspects, and 15 cultists were apprehended.

The police also recovered six stolen vehicles, three stolen motorcycles, 39 stolen phones, and various firearms, including AK-47 rifles and pistols. Agbonika commended Inspector General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun for approving the deployment of tactical intelligence support.
