Police Arrest Five in Anambra Criminal Gang Bust

The Anambra State Police Command dismantled a five-member criminal gang specializing in robbing commercial transport vehicles in Ihiala Local Government Area. The operation, led by the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu, took place in the early hours of March 24, 2026.

The police recovered several firearms, including a locally made Beretta pistol, three Qlink motorcycles, and a red face mask. The gang's female member played a strategic role by posing as a passenger to deceive unsuspecting motorcyclists, commonly known as "okada" riders, before gang members attacked and robbed them.

The arrested suspects include Sunday Chukwudebel (22), Adaobi Udez (26), Chimezi Ifebi (35), Kelvin Chukwuejik (28), and William Umeh (26). SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command's spokesman, emphasized the police's commitment to ensuring public safety and urged commercial motorcyclists to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
