Police Recover Sophisticated Arms in Anambra Operation

On May 6, 2026, police operatives from the Nigerian Police Force, led by CSP Oreb Chidubem Matthew, conducted an operation in Anambra State, specifically in Owerr, Ezukala, Orumba South LGA, based on gathered intelligence. They recovered a significant cache of sophisticated arms and ammunition, including a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), 2,000 rounds of live chain ammunition, two fabric rocket launchers, 25 propelled devices, ten locally made improvised explosive devices, a locally made Beretta pistol, two pump-action guns, three hand grenades, and ten rounds of K2 live ammunition.

The operation resulted in the arrest of Nnamdi Nkemdilim Ogbonna, 37, who is alleged to be a top commander of a proscribed secessionist group. The police public relations officer for Anambra Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that Ogbonna confessed to involvement in several violent attacks in the state, including assaults on police facilities and ambushes during stop-and-search operations.

The operation aimed to strengthen ongoing offensives against armed criminal groups in the state.
