Police Rescue Abducted Mother and Sons in Abuja

On June 6, 2026, the Nigeria Police Force confirmed the successful rescue of an abducted mother and her two sons. The operation was coordinated by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and commenced at 7:30 PM local time.

The rescue was achieved through sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance tactics, which enabled the investigation to track the kidnappers' movements. During the operation, a confrontation occurred, resulting in the fatal wounding of two suspects, with two rifles recovered at the scene.

The victims were reported to be unharmed and were receiving medical care and support. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu commended the courage and professionalism of the IRT officers involved in the operation.

Preliminary intelligence indicated that some suspects escaped with gunshot injuries, and efforts to apprehend fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate are ongoing. The police expressed appreciation for public support and cooperation during the operation.
