Police Uncover Fake Diplomatic Plate Syndicate in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has revealed the existence of a criminal syndicate involved in the production and distribution of fake diplomatic and official government number plates. These counterfeit plates are reportedly used by criminals to bypass security checkpoints and gain unauthorized access to restricted areas in Abuja.

Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, disclosed these findings during a press briefing on Friday. He stated that individuals have paid between N500,000 and N1.7 million for these fake plates, indicating their intent to engage in criminal activities.

The investigation began shortly after Sanusi assumed office, prompted by reports of unauthorized use of diplomatic plates. The investigation has led to the identification of both users and producers of these fake plates, with suspects currently in custody awaiting charges.

Sanusi noted that the manufacturers operate outside the Federal Capital Territory but have been identified, and efforts to apprehend them are ongoing.
