FCT Police Uncover Fake Diplomatic Plate Syndicate

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has revealed the dismantling of a criminal syndicate involved in the production and distribution of fake diplomatic and official government number plates. These counterfeit plates are utilized by criminals to bypass security checkpoints and gain unauthorized access to restricted areas in Abuja.

Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, stated that individuals have paid between N500,000 and N1.7 million for these fake plates, indicating their intent to commit crimes. The investigation began shortly after Sanusi assumed office, prompted by reports of unauthorized use of diplomatic plates.

He emphasized the need for public assistance in identifying these criminals. The investigation has led to the recovery of fake plates and the identification of both users and manufacturers, with suspects currently in custody awaiting charges.

Sanusi noted that the manufacturers operate outside the FCT but have been identified, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend them.
