Police Dismiss Political Motive in Babatola Rape Case

The Ekiti State Police Command has denied any political motives behind the arrest and prosecution of Ayodele Babatola in a rape case. The case commenced on May 25, 2026, when Bukola Oluwaseun, 30, reported an incident of rape and assault that allegedly took place on the night of May 24, 2026, at Kiibat Hotel located along Petim Estate in Ado Ekiti.

Oluwaseun, who had met Babatola via social media three months prior, claimed that after agreeing to meet at the hotel, she was assaulted when she resisted his advances. She reported visible injuries at the time of her complaint.

Following the report, police invited Babatola for questioning, where he allegedly became provoked when Oluwaseun requested payment for sex. Although he admitted to leaving the hotel, he denied any penetration.

A medical examination confirmed penetration, leading to Babatola being charged and currently remanded at the Central Correctional Service in Ado Ekiti. SP Abutu Sundai urged the public to disregard claims of illegal arrest or political motivation, emphasizing that the case stems from a formal complaint and thorough investigation.
