Police Dismantle Kidnapping Camps in Rivers State

On April 12, 2026, a joint operation led by the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, DSS, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, successfully destroyed kidnapping camps in the Ikwerr Local Government Area of Rivers State. The operation resulted in the recovery of significant arms, including one AK-47 rifle, one pump-action gun, 274 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and other items such as a large iron cutter and communication devices.

ASP Bless Aagab, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed that the operation followed the identification of criminal hideouts used by kidnappers. The operation led to the arrest of suspects, although some fled the scene.

CP Olugbenga Adepoju reassured the public of the police's commitment to safeguarding lives and property while urging residents to support security agencies with credible information to facilitate prompt arrests of criminals.
