Police Recover AK-47 Linked to Abducted Vigilante Leader

On April 12, 2026, a joint operation by the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies in Rivers State resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and a pump-action gun, along with 274 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. This operation targeted a criminal hideout in Igwuruta, Ali Ikwerr Local Government Area, where suspects linked to the abduction of a local vigilante leader were believed to be hiding.

The operation, which was part of a broader strategy to combat kidnapping and criminal activities in the state, led to the destruction of the criminals' camp and the arrest of several suspects. Police spokesperson Bless Agab confirmed the details in a statement issued in Port Harcourt.

State Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju reassured residents of the command's commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging the public to support security agencies with credible information to facilitate prompt arrests of criminal elements.
