Police Officer Detained for Shooting Trader at Checkpoint

On August 11, a police officer shot a trader named Danladi at a checkpoint while he was transporting vegetables to the South-East. The incident prompted immediate action from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Riyom Division, who disarmed the officer and took him into custody.

SP Alfred Alabo, the command’s spokesman, confirmed the officer's arrest on Sunday, stating that he is currently undergoing questioning and a disciplinary process at the State CID. The Commissioner of Police has instructed the DPO to visit the hospital where Danladi is receiving treatment and to provide a report on his condition.

SP Alabo urged the public to remain calm and avoid confrontations with armed security personnel, warning that such situations could escalate. He assured the public that the police command is handling the matter and will provide updates as the investigation progresses.
