Soldier Shoots Businessman in Adamawa, Residents Demand Justice

On Sunday at approximately 8:40 PM, a businessman named Abu was shot by a soldier in Mubi, Adamawa, while riding an electric motorcycle. Fearing arrest due to a motorcycle movement restriction from 9 PM to 6 AM, Abu made a U-turn towards his home.

After parking and attempting to lock his gate, a soldier who had followed him allegedly opened fire at close range, injuring Abu severely. The bullet grazed his shoulder and struck his lower jaw.

Neighbors apprehended the soldier after hearing the gunshot, but he was released later due to the intervention of his superiors and community elders. Abu was initially treated at the Federal Medical Centre Mubi and later referred to the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital in Yola.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with residents asserting that security personnel must protect civilians and adhere to military engagement rules. They demand accountability for the soldier's actions, emphasizing the need for restraint in law enforcement.
