Ebonyi Police Detain Officer for Alleged Civilian Assault

An officer from the Ebonyi State Police Command has been detained following allegations of assault against a civilian in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area. The incident was reported by the public relations officer, Joshua Ukandu, who identified the officer involved.

In response, the Commissioner of Police for Ebonyi State, Hope Urunwa Okafor, directed the transfer of the officer to the command headquarters. The Deputy Commissioner of Police has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

Ukandu expressed sympathy for the victim, who is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki. He assured the public that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly and transparently, emphasizing the command's commitment to professionalism and respect for citizens' fundamental rights.

The Ebonyi State Police Command maintains a zero-tolerance stance against any form of misconduct that could discredit the Nigerian police force, and any officer found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary action.
