Ebonyi Police Detain Officers Over Alleged Assault Case

The Ebonyi State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into an alleged assault involving police officers in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area. The officers involved have already been identified and detained, with their transfer ordered by Commissioner of Police Hope Urunwa Okafor to the command headquarters.

Deputy Commissioner of Police has been directed to charge the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a comprehensive investigation. Public Relations Officer (PRO) Joshua Ukandu issued a press statement in Abakaliki on Wednesday, stating that the officers will remain in detention pending the outcome of the investigation.

If found culpable, they will face appropriate disciplinary procedures. The command expressed sympathy for the victim, who is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki, and assured the public that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly and transparently without bias.
