Ebonyi Police Detain Officers Over Civilian Assault Case

The Ebonyi State Police Command has detained officers involved in the alleged assault of a civilian, Kingsley Esheya, which occurred in the early hours of Monday in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area. The incident gained significant public attention after images of the victim circulated on social media.

In response, the Commissioner of Police (CP) Alwai has stated that the actions of the officers will not go unpunished. A statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer (SP Joshua Ukandu) confirmed that the officers involved have been identified, detained, and transferred to the state command headquarters for further investigation.

CP Hope Okafor has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police to oversee the investigation through the State Criminal Investigation Department. The command has expressed sympathy for the victim, who is receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki, and has assured the public of a transparent and impartial investigation, reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on police brutality.
