Police DIG Warns of Rising Trans-Border Crimes in Jigawa

Sulaiman Moham Abdul, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, has warned of the growing threat posed by trans-border crimes, particularly in Jigawa State, which is known for its peaceful reputation. During a two-day operational visit to the state, he emphasized that sustaining peace and security requires collective action beyond the efforts of security agencies alone.

He called for a town hall meeting with stakeholders to discuss strategies for co-producing peace and preventing trans-border crime to maintain regional stability. Abdul noted that the changing dynamics of crime across the northwest necessitate greater vigilance, especially in border communities where criminal networks exploit weak surveillance systems.

He stressed that the police cannot achieve sustainable peace without active collaboration with traditional rulers, religious leaders, government institutions, civil society organizations, the media, and citizens. He outlined six strategic priorities for the Nigeria Police Force aimed at strengthening internal security nationwide, including intelligence-led operations and improved personnel welfare.
