IG Disu Advocates Community Collaboration for Security

During a stakeholders' security engagement meeting held in Umuahia, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between community members and security agencies to tackle Nigeria's growing security challenges. He noted that effective security management relies heavily on timely intelligence from local communities.

Disu highlighted the critical role of community members in sharing information about suspicious activities and emerging tensions, which can prevent crime and violence. He urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and religious authorities to mediate disputes and promote peace, while also warning that idle youth are vulnerable to recruitment by criminal groups.

Disu called for mentorship and empowerment structures at the community level to guide young people. He also outlined ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force aimed at strengthening intelligence gathering, expanding rural police presence, and improving information-sharing networks.

The meeting included representatives from the Abia State Police Command, including Danladi Isa and Ifeanyi Ohuruzo, who discussed strategies to maintain peace and security in the state.
