Rivers Police Dismiss Five Inspectors for Robbery, Kidnapping

The Rivers Police Command dismissed five inspectors, namely John Okoi, Eyibo Asuquo, Udo Ndipmong, Bright Nwachukwu, and Anel Ikechukwu, due to their alleged involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping, and extortion. Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Placid disclosed this in a statement released in Port Harcourt.
The officers were implicated in a pattern of criminal activities from September 2025 to January 2026, where they reportedly operated a minibus to conduct illegal stop-and-search operations, intercepting unsuspecting members of the public at gunpoint. Victims were forced to disclose their bank account details and transfer money under duress.
One victim lost N3.6 million and $4,000 in cryptocurrency, while another was dispossessed of N7.3 million in cash. The officers were found culpable during an investigation, leading to their dismissal from the Nigerian Police Force.
The case has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution for formal charges, expected to be filed within 30 days.
