Police Dismiss Assassination Attempt on Osun Monarch

The Osun State Police Command has dismissed claims of an assassination attempt on a monarch involving a 26-year-old man, Semilola Odunayo Mondai. The incident occurred on June 3, when Mondai allegedly climbed the fence to forcibly enter Atoja's Palace in Osogbo at 8:45 AM.

Upon being challenged by domestic staff, he fled but sustained injuries during the pursuit and was later taken to UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital for treatment. Following preliminary investigations, the police concluded that there was no evidence to support the assassination claims.

Mondai admitted to unlawfully entering the palace but denied any intent to attack the monarch or anyone else. The police committee, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Suleiman Bayonl, found that Mondai did not carry a firearm or any offensive weapon at the time of his arrest.

He was arraigned in Magistrate Court II in Osogbo on June 8, charged with attempted felony, and remanded in custody pending further proceedings.
