Police, EFCC Nab 9 Kidnapping, Cyber Crime Suspects In Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has apprehended a total of nine suspects involved in kidnapping and cybercrime activities in the state. Two individuals were arrested in connection with a recent foiled kidnapping attempt in Eket local government area, while seven suspected cybercriminals were rounded up in a separate operation in Uyo.

The police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, and the EFCC's Dele Ojewale confirmed the arrests, highlighting the diligent intelligence work that led to the successful operations. One of the suspects, Victor Bassey Tom, confessed to being part of a kidnapping gang and was linked to several cases in the Eket area.

The EFCC recovered items such as laptops and mobile phones from the cybercrime suspects, who will be charged in court once investigations are completed. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals involved in these criminal activities.
