Nigerian Police Extradite Murder Suspect to UK

Matthew Chukwuemeka Adebiyi, a suspect in a murder and drug trafficking case, was extradited from Nigeria to the United Kingdom. His extradition followed a formal request from UK authorities, which was processed by the Nigerian Police Force through Interpol's National Central Bureau in Abuja.

Adebiyi is alleged to have been involved in the murder of Joshua Boadu on June 18, 2018, and in supplying crack cocaine between October 2017 and March 2018. He was arrested on January 23, 2025, and the Federal High Court in Lagos granted the extradition application on February 16, 2026.

The extradition process was executed in accordance with the law, and Adebiyi was formally handed over to UK law enforcement officials on April 14, 2026, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Inspector General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Police Force to international collaboration, emphasizing that Nigeria does not serve as a safe haven for fugitives.
