Police Foil Bandit Attack in Sokoto, Recover Ammunition

On the night of July 25, the Sokoto Police Command responded to a distress call regarding an attack by armed bandits on a community. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) mobilized tactical teams, including operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

The joint security team engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, which forced the bandits to retreat into a nearby forest, likely sustaining gunshot wounds. Following the confrontation, a search of the surrounding bushes resulted in the recovery of five magazines containing 40 rounds of live ammunition.

Fortunately, there were no casualties reported among security personnel or residents during the operation. In response to the incident, the police have intensified confidence-building patrols in the area and alerted neighboring police divisions to monitor for any injured suspects seeking medical treatment or hiding within their jurisdictions.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals, particularly those with visible gunshot wounds.
