Police Arrest 16 in Ondo Over Bomb Plot Targeting Government

On April 15, 2026, the Ondo State Police Command arrested 16 individuals suspected of criminal activities, including a bomb plot targeting government facilities in Akure. Mr.

Adebowal Lawal, the Commissioner of Police for the state, disclosed that six suspects were specifically involved in the alleged bomb plot. The operation, which was based on credible intelligence regarding a criminal syndicate operating across state lines, led to the recovery of materials used for assembling improvised explosive devices, alongside several incriminating items.

The police recovered 217 bottles of bag sugar, 17 mobile phones, N187,000 in cash, two HP laptops, eight sling knives, an external hard drive, and identification cards, including a national identity number card, as well as two motorcycles. Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects had been renting an apartment in the Odu area of Akure as a base for their operations, with documents recovered suggesting a premeditated and coordinated plan to attack government infrastructure.
