Bauchi Police Foil Kidnap Attempt, Arrest Two Suspects

On May 12, 2026, the Bauchi State Police Command successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt and arrested two suspects, Kyellumi Umar and Muhammad Aliyu Gawo, during a rapid response operation in the Misau Local Government Area. The operation was initiated following credible intelligence received by the command, which led to the swift mobilization and interception of the suspects.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly planned to rob two businessmen, identified as Alhaji Labdo and Alhaji Baba. Alhaji Labdo was targeted due to claims that he does not keep money in the bank, while Alhaji Baba was noted to often carry large sums of money in bags when visiting the market.

The police spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, advised the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies to combat crime. The suspects are currently in custody at the state criminal investigation department and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
