Plateau Police Launch Violent Crimes Response Unit

The Plateau State Police Command formally inaugurated the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) to improve operational efficiency in responding to violent crimes. Commissioner of Police Bassey Ewah stated that the VCRU aims to ensure police activities adhere to international human rights standards.

The unit's personnel were selected based on professional integrity and operational competence. Ewah announced the establishment of a civilian oversight mechanism to monitor the unit's activities and address public complaints.

During the inauguration, six suspects were paraded for offenses related to cattle rustling, theft, and illegal possession of firearms, including three locally fabricated rifles, two revolvers, and an AK-47 magazine with live ammunition. The investigation is ongoing, and suspects will be charged in court upon completion.

The Commissioner reassured Plateau citizens that the VCRU will collaborate with community groups to enhance public safety and combat violent crime effectively.
