Police Arrest Nine with Illegal Arms in Anambra State

The Anambra State Police Command intercepted two vehicles carrying illegal firearms during a stop-and-search operation at a checkpoint in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area, in the early hours of Friday, August 28, 2026. The operation was led by Chief Superintendent of Police Austin Elaigwu and involved collaboration with various security agencies, including the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, and operatives of the Agunechemba Security Outfit.

The vehicles, identified as a custom-coloured Sienna and an ash-coloured Toyota RAV4, resulted in the arrest of nine suspects, comprising seven males and two females. A thorough search of the vehicles led to the recovery of three AK-47 rifles, one pump-action gun, charms, and other items relevant to the investigation.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspects claimed to be security operatives from a neighboring state but could not provide satisfactory explanations regarding their identities or the firearms. Commissioner of Police Nnanna Oji Ama commended the operatives for their efforts in this intelligence-led operation.
