Police Neutralize Two Kidnappers in Anambra Gun Duel

On August 19, 2026, the Anambra State Police Command neutralized two suspected kidnappers following a gun duel along Ezeowelle Road in Idemili Local Government Area. SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Command, reported that operatives from the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acted on credible intelligence regarding the suspects' location.

Upon arrival, the suspects opened fire, resulting in a prolonged exchange of gunfire. The encounter led to the fatal injuries of two suspects, while others managed to escape with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.

The police recovered an AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing four live rounds, a pump-action gun, and five live cartridges from the scene. CP Nnanna Oji Ama, the head of the Anambra State Police Command, reaffirmed the Command's commitment to intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and ensuring public safety.

Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing gang members.
