Igbinedion School Students Expelled for Assaulting Classmate

Two male students from Igbinedion Educational Centre, a private secondary school in Benin, Edo State, were expelled following a public outcry over a viral video showing them assaulting a classmate. The incident involved the students dragging the victim and stomping on his chest, causing visible distress.

The school management issued a statement on Friday, condemning the behavior as disturbing and contrary to the institution's values, emphasizing a strict zero-tolerance policy against bullying, intimidation, harassment, and violence. They are cooperating fully with the police, who have invited the parents of the victim to lodge formal complaints to initiate an investigation.

Eno Ikoedem, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, stated that bullying is a criminal offense and should not be tolerated. Human rights activist Kola Edokpayi also condemned the attack and called for strict sanctions to deter future incidents.
