Police Neutralize 17 Bandits After Deadly Attack in Zamfara

On August 25, 2026, at approximately 4:05 p.m., a group of heavily armed bandits attacked motorists near Unguwar Chida Village in Zamfara, blocking the highway and opening fire on two commercial vehicles. The attack resulted in the death of the Sharon vehicle driver, Alhaji Halilu Namadi, and six passengers, while one male passenger on the Sokoto State Transport Authority (SSTA) bus was also killed.

Nine others sustained injuries, and eight passengers were abducted. Following the incident, the Divisional Police Officer in Tsafe mobilized the Police Violence Crime Response Unit to the scene, where the deceased and injured were evacuated to the General Hospital, Tsafe.

Later that day, at 6:45 p.m., the bandits attacked Magazu Village, injuring Lawali Muazu. In a subsequent operation, police and military forces engaged the bandits on the Funtua-Gusau Federal Highway, resulting in the neutralization of 17 bandits.

Ongoing efforts are being made to rescue the abducted individuals and maintain security in the area.
