Zamfara Imams Abducted While Praying for Tinubu's Bid
On September 13, five imams were kidnapped in Zamfara while en route to Talata Mafara for a prayer session organized for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. The abduction occurred at Gidan Suleiman Bature, approximately three kilometers from Damri village.
The prayer session was led by Senator Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar, the Director-General of the Tinubu 2027 re-election campaign council, and attended by over 2,000 imams. The abducted clerics include Malam Shehu, Liman Yahuza, Liman Bala, and Na’ibi Tasi’u.
The Zamfara State Police Command has initiated a rescue operation. Families of the clerics report trauma and uncertainty, with a son of one of the imams stating that communities are exploring options due to inadequate government response.
The bandits have reportedly demanded a ransom of N30 million and have moved the clerics to another location, complicating negotiations.
