Police Arrest Man for Instigating Mob Attack in Calabar

The Cross River State Police Command arrested a 56-year-old man named Azubike Micheal for allegedly instigating a mob attack on Chukwu Ebuka, who was accused of stealing mobile phones around Harbour Junction, Calabar. The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, following a distress call received by the police.

A patrol team was dispatched to the scene, where they found Ebuka being attacked by a mob. The police intervened, rescued him, and took him to an undisclosed clinic for treatment of multiple injuries.

ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that Micheal was arrested for encouraging the mob's actions. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo-Geoffrey Ordue, emphasized the importance of not taking the law into one's own hands and urged the public to report suspected criminal activities to the police.
