Police Arrest Two for Impersonating NDLEA Operatives

The Abia State Police Command arrested two men, Anthony Kelechi (41) and Bright Abraham (42), for impersonating operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and assaulting a commercial tricycle operator in Umuahia. The arrests occurred after a viral video circulated on social media, depicting the suspects, dressed in clothing resembling that of community security operatives, physically assaulting the handcuffed tricycle driver.

According to DSP Maureen Chinaka, the suspects are believed to be members of a social watch anti-drug abuse advocacy organization, which they allegedly used as a cover to carry out illegal operations within the Umuahia metropolis. They are accused of unlawfully arresting and extorting money from members of the public under the guise of enforcing drug laws.

The police have initiated ongoing investigations to ensure diligent prosecution of the suspects and have warned the public against taking the law into their own hands.
