Police Mandate Officers to Pay Transport Fares in Lagos

The Inspector General of Police, Olorundar Moshood Jimoh, has issued a directive to police personnel under the Zone 2 Command, emphasizing that they must pay for their transport fares when boarding commercial vehicles. This order was part of a public sensitization session held in Lagos to commemorate National Police Day 2026.

Jimoh cautioned officers against taking free rides, highlighting the importance of mutual respect between law enforcement and the public. He reiterated a zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, including extortion and arbitrary arrests, and encouraged citizens to report any wrongdoings by officers.

Additionally, he advised drivers to remain calm when interacting with law enforcement and to report grievances through appropriate channels. Jimoh also warned against risky behaviors, such as speeding and driving under the influence, which significantly increase the likelihood of road accidents.

He concluded by reaffirming the police command's commitment to engaging with transport stakeholders to promote safer roads and public safety.
