Police Investigate Death of 80-Year-Old in Anambra Dispute

The Anambra State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of 80-year-old Paul Onwualu, which is reportedly connected to a traditional stool dispute in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area. Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga stated that preliminary findings indicate officers involved in the incident have been identified, but they are not attached to the Anambra State Police Command.

Eyewitness accounts from family members allege that Onwualu was assaulted during an attempt to arrest him last Thursday, as he was an aspirant for the traditional stool. The incident reportedly occurred when officers, accompanied by individuals opposing Onwualu's aspiration, stormed his residence.

Following the assault, he collapsed and was taken to Iyi Enu Mission Hospital in Ogidi, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel. His wife, Anthony Onwualu, corroborated the account of the alleged attack and the circumstances leading to her husband's death.
