Anambra Police Investigate Extortion Claims by Officers

The Anambra State Police Command has launched an investigation into allegations of extortion involving personnel from the Okpoko division in Onitsha. This follows the circulation of a viral video that accuses the officers of arresting a victim and demanding money to avoid detention.

The police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the state Commissioner of Police, Ikioy Orutugu, has ordered a full and urgent probe into the matter. The command has acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations, describing the conduct of the officers as unprofessional.

Immediate steps have been taken to identify the officers involved, and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) has been directed to produce the concerned officers for investigation. Ikenga emphasized that the command will not shield any officer found culpable and that appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken according to established procedures.
