Six Anambra Police Officers Detained for Extortion

Six police officers from the Okpoko Police Division in Anambra State have been detained for allegedly extorting N200,000 from a victim involved in a point-of-sale operation. The incident occurred around the Upper Iweka area of Onitsha and was brought to light through a viral video in which the victim's wife narrated the events.

According to her account, police officers demanded vehicle documents from her husband, who was found to have valid documentation. Despite this, the officers allegedly handcuffed him, seized his phone, and accused him of theft, subsequently pressuring him to pay N500,000 for his release.

The victim, feeling frightened and confused, transferred N200,000 to the officers. The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident and has commenced an investigation, with the Command's spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga stating that the officers involved, including two Assistant Superintendents and four Inspectors, have been detained pending the outcome of the investigation.
